Autumn is one of the most majestic times in the Midwest and we are lucky to have some of the most beautiful fall colors within a day trip from the Minneapolis – Saint Paul area. According to the Minnesota DNR, the prime time to enjoy the changing colors is mid-September to early or mid-October. So why not venture out and take a drive or stroll to see the fall beauty? Here are a few ideas of where to go:

Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – There are plenty of events or just take a drive or walk through the Arboretum to enjoy the scenery.

Mississippi River Bluffs – About three hours from Minneapolis, the bluffs offer beautiful views of the Mississippi River valley and are the home to eagles and hawks, so bring your binoculars!

North Shore Waterfalls – This four hour trip is a bit of a hike, but you’ll be able to enjoy the highest waterfalls in all of Minnesota along with the foliage tours via car, hiking or walking.

City Parks – This trip is close to home. Enjoy a stroll or hike through one of our many city parks.

Fort Snelling State Park – Not only do we have the local city parks, but we also have state parks. Enjoy the changing seasons by kayak, canoe ride, bike or hike.

Chain of Lakes – For a relatively close trip, check out Chain of Lakes. Make a day of it and take a canoe or bike ride.

Where is your favorite place to see the fall colors?
